Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic is hot, and the pace of openings seems likely to establish the country as the Caribbean’s choice golf destination.

One course that has gotten recent attention is Punta Espada, the first at Cap Cana and a Jack Nicklaus signature, which opened in 2006. The 7,382-yard route includes eight oceanside holes and others that make use of the area’s bluffs and beaches.

In Punta Cana, Nick Faldo’s Roco Ki Resort opened in 2007, as did Nick Price’s Punta Blanca near the new Majestic Colonial Beach Resort. (more…)

Santo Domingo.– The leading travel channel in the Dominican Republic presents its annual travel show at the Salon Anacaona, of the Hotel Jaragua from 9 to 11 May.

During the fair, the public will be able to buy summer vacation packages in the country, as well as international destinations, choosing from a wide range of products and services.

Santo Domingo.- The hotel Paradise Beach Resort & Casino in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata began an extensive renovation process of its facilities.

Antonio Herrera, vice president of sales and marketing for the chain Amhsa Marina Hotels & Resorts said  the hotel will close its doors to the public for renovation from May 6.

PUERTO PLATA.- President Leonel Fernandez headed ribbon-cuttings for several works in this province Thursday, built at a cost of RD$567 million, among them the remodeling of the San Felipe Cathedral and Plaza Independencia park.

SANTO DOMINGO.-The new carrier Air Dominicana will begin operations May 2, with its fleet’s first airplane ready; a 737-A, already identified with the Dominican flag’s colors, red, white and blue.

Newspaper Diario Libre reports that the Dominican State’s share in the new airline of US$10 million initial capital is 40 percent, and the Spanish capital is 32 percent. (more…)

SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic’s tourism industry grew 5.9 percent in March compared with the same month last year, and 1.1 million visitors arrived in the first quarter.

Tourism minister Felix Jiménez said last month’s arrival of Canadian and U.S. tourists grew 9 and 7.4 percent respectively, whereas flow from England, Belgium and Spain also posted growth.

The official said among Dominican Republic’s new tourism markets are Russians, Mexicans (12 percent), Ecuadorians (103 percent) and Peru (27percent). “In general, during the past month of March 389,075 nonresident foreigners arrived at the country by air.” (more…)
