The Viva hotel group is presenting its new hotel in Samana, the Viva Residence Bahia Estela (40 units) in Coson, Las Terrenas. This is the third residential vacation property offered by the Viva brand. Viva was first known for its all-inclusive hotels in Bayahibe/Dominicus before expanding to Puerto Plata, Samana, the Bahamas and Mexico. The others are Viva Residence Las Terrenas (76 units under construction also at Playa Coson) and Viva Residence Playa Dorada, in operation in Puerto Plata.

Promoter Rafael Blanco Canto made the announcement last week, saying that Viva is betting on the future of Samana in the wake of the investments being made and the major infrastructure projects launched by the government. These include the construction of the aqueduct, a residual water treatment plant, the new highway to Las Galeras, and the new Atlantic-bordering boulevard that will eliminate the need to make the winding Las Terrenas mountain crossing from the southern side of the Samana peninsula.

Blanco also mentioned the Samana international airport and new urban renewal initiatives in Las Terrenas.
Viva Residence Bahia Estela units have two rooms and 110 square meters right on the beachfront.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Tourism Ministry asks the sectors interested in Puerto Plata’s tourism development to participate on Thursday in the public hearings on the reach of Decree 847-09 and advances of the Territorial Tourism Master Plan Cabarete 2015, aimed at eliminating the zone’s urban sprawl.

Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia said the decree regulates construction in Cabarete, where they’ll have to be built without jeopardizing the territory’s integrity, the characteristic urban landscape and natural resources and sports activities.

He said borders will be established in the regulatory Territorial Master Plan in each of that tourism zone’s environmental units, according to building suitability for vision and wind management criteria.

Garcia said the public hearings will begin at 2 p.m., in the hotel Viva Wyndham Tangerine Cabarete.

As to the Decree, the Tourism Minister also noted that president Leonel Fernandez approved the Territorial Tourism Master Plan (POTT) for the Cabarete Municipal District, elaborated by the Tourism Ministry, which establishes regulations such as the control of constructions based on their location and according the Plan’s guidelines.

He said the provisions also establish the division of the territory into environmental units which categorized in seven divisions, starting from the original parcels, existing models of implementation, natural coastal terrain features and the natural monument of the Cabarete and Goleta lagoons.

He said the Tourism Ministry’s Planning and Projects Department will be the agency which regulates the Plan’s controls and norms, which will have to be reviewed in a period of five years from the date of the Decree.

Punta Cana.– Green Globe, the leading certification program for sustainability in travel and tourism, congratulates the Barceló Punta Cana Resort on achieving certification. Throughout the certification and auditing process, the Barceló Punta Cana Resort made significant investments to ensure that the resort’s infrastructure met the highest environmental standards.

A key focus for the certification was the upgrading of chiller systems and guest room air-conditioning as well as the installation of an ultraviolet purifier in the resort’s water treatment plant. In addition, the resort’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, which were introduced to assist the local community’s school and students, also played an important role.

The new program encourages guests to donate notebooks, pencils and textbooks for the local community. The resort organizes day trips for the local school students, where the educational materials are presented and the resort’s facilities are open for the students and their families to enjoy.

“At Barcelo, we are always reaching for higher and more specific benchmarks, like that of Green Globe,” said Claudio Zboznovits, vice president of Barceló Hotels & Resorts sales and marketing in the U.S. and Canada. “Our guests appreciate our efforts, both to provide eco-friendly features but also to make a positive impact on the local community. This certification helps to further demonstrate our company-wide commitment in both areas.”

Green Globe CEO Guido Bauer said, “The Barceló Punta Cana Resort has truly excelled with the certification program, and through their efforts, the resort has achieved 85 percent of the certification criteria. For a resort to succeed in reaching this level in their first year of certification is outstanding.”

The resort is located on one of the Dominican Republic’s most beautiful nature settings, alongside the white sands of Arena Gorda Beach at Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana. It is a Premium Barcelo all-inclusive resort, which joined the Barcelo brand in 2006.

Casa de Campo is as good as new as of Tuesday, 22 December. The hotel has reopened following a major renovation of its rooms and suites, and a fully remodeled lobby. Also unveiled was La Cana Restaurant & Lounge by Il Circo, a fine dining restaurant with both indoor and al fresco dining, managed by the Maccioni family of Le Cirque in New York.

This is the Maccioni family’s second venture at Casa de Campo, following the beautiful Beach Club by Le Cirque at the resort’s Minitas Beach. The fitness center has been refurbished and a new Montecristo Cigar Lounge has been added.
The new “elite” rooms feature a modern look, while maintaining the use of rich mahogany woods and Coralina stone.

The rooms are equipped with 42 Led flat screen TVs and Blu-ray players and cable. Other features are alarm clock radios with dual dock for iPods and iPhones and high-speed, wireless Internet.

The new main area with its grand open spaces makes the absolute most of the surrounding natural Caribbean beauty in a minimalist design.

The main pool area has been completely renovated to include trellised platforms for early morning and late afternoon yoga classes, and shaded seating areas in natural woods and white canopies and cushions.

“Casa de Campo set the benchmark for luxury travel in the Caribbean” said general manager Alberto Grau, “and we are very excited to continue this fine reputation into the future.”
