SANTO DOMINGO.- One of the Caribbean Tourism Bolsa’s (BTC) greatest accomplishments has been the opening of air lines, especially charter flights from Ecuador and Mexico, and the conquest of nontraditional or chance tourists for the country.

BTC president Luis Felipe Aquino yesterday said more than 19,000 tourists visit from Ecuador, despite the lack of direct flights to that nation.

He said with the government’s support they managed to attract charter flights from Ecuador and Colombia Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.

Another of the BTC’s accomplishments Aquino mentioned is the promotion of the multi-destination and intraregional tourism. He said they make efforts to attract Brazilian operators and from the Mexican market, which despite having 5 million tourists, the country doesn’t benefit from that potential.

In another topic, Aquino said companies from different countries will come to the BTC tourism fair, including delegations from Venezuela, Argentine Guatemala, and Costa Rica.

He said the 12th edition of the Caribbean Tourism Fair will be held from April 17 to 19 in the Jaragua hotel.
