New Dominican airline’s inaugural flight set for May 2

Sun-and-beach tourism a thing of the past, Dominican expert warns
SANTO DOMINGO.- Sun and beach tourism on its own is untenable as today’s traveler seeks more variety, and because it has lagged behind in developing communities, causing social exclusion, it doesn’t have a future in the Dominican Republic, said a senior adviser of the National Competitiveness Council.

Old rocks, new tourism
Scientists working in the Central Mountains near Jarabacoa have discovered rocks dating back 160 or 170 million years, containing chromium, silver and platinum. Dominican Roco Ki requires US$90mn for infrastructure development
